Victorian SD card update - Quick key Guide
The Victorian SD Card update contains a mixture of P25 Digital talk groups and analogue voice channels.
To monitor a particular district or emergency service, use the Quick Key Guide listed below:
Each Favorite has been allocated a quick key number so you can turn each one ON or OFF via the keypad.
In regards, to the Victorian CFA - each district is allocated the same keypad number as it's respective district number.
For example: to listen to CFA District 4 – simply push the 4 button then the E.Yes button.
Repeating this process will turn your selection – On or OFF.
As of September 2021 – Each CFA District also contains the following Talk groups using the RMR Network.
The following Talk groups are included in ALL Favorites from 2 through to 27.
These Talk groups are stored as ‘Department’s’.
CFA Aircraft
Country Fire Authority
DELWP
Life Saving Victoria
Z11 Inter-agency (Zone 11 Inter-agency Talk groups)
Z21 State Cmnd (SES)
Z22 Nth East (SES)
Z23 Mid West (SES)
Z24 North West (SES)
Z25 South West (SES)
Z26 Cntrl Nth Wst (SES)
Z27 Cntrl East (SES)
Z28 Cntrl Sth (SES)
Z29 East (SES)
Z31 Inter-agency (Zone 31 Inter-agency Talk groups)
For Example – If you lived in Warrnambool, Victoria you would access all RMR users in your area by pushing the respective quick key that is allocated to your local CFA District which in ‘Warrnambool’s’ area is Favorite number 5 (Dist 5 RMR Network)

Once you have activated your local District – you would then be able to hear all RMR users that are affiliated to the sites used in your District.
In some case though you may not hear some services as they may not be affiliated to your local sites.
This could be the case with Life Saving Victoria.

You may not expect to hear activity on the RMR network from this user if you lived inland, like Bendigo or near the NSW or SA Border.
Life Saving Victoria Talk groups will generally only be heard in use near coastal areas.
Take this into account with some SES Talk groups as well.
Just because your friend 100Kms away can hear them, does not mean that the same conversation can be heard in your area.
Any combination of Favorites can be monitored at any time.
For optimum performance, only monitor the Favorites relevant to your location.
Please refer to the owner’s manual for more information on making personalised adjustments to the volume and squelch settings if required.

* The Victorian SMR network (QK-28) is a MPT 132 trunking network that is used by some emergency services, including Ambulance Victoria. It also is used by other public and business users.
This system cannot be followed correctly by a Scanner and is included only to listen to voice channels.
SES Cnvtl Chnls (Quick Key 42) contain the UHF and VHF Channels that are NOT used on the RMR or MMR networks.
These channels contain a mixture of Digital and Analogue UHF/VHF Channels.
These are primarily used for local comms on the ‘ground’ or at an ‘incident’.

The MMR Network is a P25 Trunking network and can be heard primarily in the Melbourne CBD and metro surrounds.
Users include the SES and FRV and ‘patches’ of some CFA Talkgroups.

There are three Favorites that relate to the MMR.
Each one of these Favorites relates to different types of sites used within the FRV coverage area.
LSM – BDA and ISR.
LSM are simulcast sites and may cause some confusion with PT model Scanners that have difficulty in decoding the correct site.
If this is the case – use the ISR Sites.
The ISR are wider coverage area and can be decoded easily if in range.
BDA are generally indoor or low powered sites.
Use this Favorite if in an area where this may apply.
By alternating between the three Favorites – you should be able to quickly identify which one works best in your location.

The DEWLP favorite contains the current digital channels being used by the Department of Environment, Water and Land Planning.

The CFA VHF Favorite includes all the current allocated VHF channels, including digital and analogue.
These are the same ones allocated to each individual district, but all are combined here in one Favorite.
The same channels are also included in their allocated District.
Access this Favorite if you ONLY want to monitor the ‘fireground’ channels.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is generally dedicated to coastal areas and may not be possible to monitor inland.

This Data file is by no means ‘completed’.
As the heading suggests, many versions have been created prior to this one and with the information constantly changing and channels being added and removed, the data base is always being reviewed and updated.
While every effort is made to source the latest information and confirm its relevance, I cannot guarantee that this data base will work in all areas of Victoria.
Reception issues, antenna types and of course your location all play a part in what you can receive.
A certain amount of ‘tweaking’ may be required by the user to enhance the reception of some signals, this includes setting the ‘squelch’ level to even using a different type of antenna that suits the bandwidth you are trying to monitor.
The supplied antenna that comes with your Scanner is a generic ‘wide band’ type antenna and in a reasonable reception area it will receive most signals.
If your interest is aircraft, you may wish to consider updating the antenna to a dedicated air band antenna.
This same rule applies if you are strictly monitoring the Victorian CFA RMR network in the 160 MHz band.
Replacing the factory supplied antenna with a dedicated 160 MHz band antenna will give much better results in a ‘weaker’ reception area.
Some consideration must be also given when using the Scanner inside a vehicle. Fitting an outside antenna will certainly give better results.
